Spring is the perfect time to open your pool and let that giant patch of glistening blue enhance the beauty of your garden. As vaccines are slowly rolled out, the possibility of holding pool parties may still be far, far away. But summer isn’t, and your pool may need maintenance and repairs to welcome it.

For 55 years now, Metro Pool Services Limited has been providing maintenance and repair services to owners of in-ground swimming pools in the Greater Toronto Area.

The company also provides services, such as pool renovation, equipment repair and installation. A long roster of glowing reviews on the Metro Pool website offers testimony to the outstanding quality of their client service.

Challenges

It was the desire to improve their staff management and workplace health and safety that led Metro Pool Services to sign up with Peninsula in March 2020.

“We didn’t have employee contracts or a strong knowledge of employee and employer rights,” says Mike, the service manager at Metro Pool Services.

“Peninsula helped us with employee contracts, employee handbook and other HR documents. They gave us templates for many of the things we were after. Besides HR, we also signed up for their health and safety service,” he says.

COVID-19

“A really nice thing about Peninsula is that they communicate promptly via email on changes or updates to any standard,” says Mike.

“For instance, with COVID-19, any time the government makes a change, shortly after there is an email from Peninsula outlining the change and informing us what we need to do as a business.”

Besides regular updates and guidance on changing rules and measures, Peninsula also helped the company with their COVID-19 policy. “They also helped us with safety checklists and templates for signage,” says Mike.

“We’ve been fortunate enough that we’ve been able to operate [in 2020] without too much disruption to our business,” says Mike “The hardest part has been policing our staff on mask wearing and screening prior to entering and matters like that.”

The Peninsula Service

Mike says he particularly likes using Peninsula’s 24/7 advice line for employers. “You know when you call, you have an answer quickly,” he says. “If they don’t have an answer, they’ll work on it and get back to you promptly. But most of the time, they have the answer within that brief phone call.”

Signing up with Peninsula has been educational and helpful for our business, he says. Mike says he would recommend Peninsula to other businesses for sure. “It’s for anyone who wants a better understanding of how to protect their business and their employees.”
