Collaborating with a network of engineers, designers, and industry experts, The Built Group’s professionals have been doing just that in the Greater Toronto area since 2017. Their range of services includes residential and commercial renovation, design build, project management and disaster restoration.

“We are an insurance restoration business. We respond to damaged property claims such as floods, fires, vehicle impact or issues with mould or asbestos,” explains Lisa Stewart, the Office and Administrative Manager at The Built Group.

The Built Group has been a Peninsula client since September 2020.

Challenges

Being a small business with 12 employees, The Built Group did not have an HR department. But they felt the need for HR guidance all the same.

“We were all new and trying to run our own business. We needed some help and guidance. We were referred to Peninsula by a neighbour. Once we heard enough about the services Peninsula offers, we signed up immediately,” says Lisa. The company was also looking for advice on workplace health and safety.

HR and OHS management

Lisa says Peninsula has helped provide timely guidance when her company needed to layoff and terminate some employees.

“I have been able to reach out and find answers on difficult subjects such as letting someone go or reprimanding an employee, or how to properly write somebody up, things like that,” she says. “and also, with our employment contracts. That has been a huge help too.”

Peninsula’s support on occupational health and safety has given them a clear vision of what needs to be done, says Lisa. “It has helped with our employment safety policies and made it easier for us to see where we are and what we need to continue to work on,” she says.

“The fact that I can email one of your specialists with questions and they get back to me so fast with all the answers and the required documentation – is just so amazing,” Lisa says.

COVID-19

“Peninsula has been a lifesaver during this COVID-19 challenge we’ve all been facing,” says Lisa. “We’ve received help creating our COVID-19 policy, besides getting advice on anything COVID-19 related”.

“To not have to sit and question if we are doing it right has been great. It has given us peace of mind as well,” says Lisa.

BrightHR

Lisa says she particularly likes Peninsula’s cloud-based HR management software, BrightHR.

“I probably use it the most. It’s so helpful to have all employee information in one secure place. Employees can request their vacation time or book time off for any medical appointments. Everything is available to view anytime and from anywhere,” she says. BrightHR is also available through the BrightHR iOS and Android app. It is a service that can be used by employers on the go.

The Peninsula Service

Lisa says their experience with Peninsula has been amazing. “I recommended Peninsula to other business owners that I know,” she says.

“People who are starting their own businesses or currently have one, often question: What do I do with this employee? What should my job contracts look like? Any questions like that, I just say, I am not an expert. I don’t know. That’s why we have Peninsula.
